Leeds United close to signing Senne Lammens

Leeds United are reportedly closing in on signing 20-year-old Club Brugge goalkeeper Senne Lammens this year.

According to a report from HLN, as relayed by Sport Witness, 20-year-old goalkeeper Senne Lammens is currently in talks with Leeds United regarding a potential transfer this year.

The highly-talented goalkeeper will be a free agent at the end of the season and is eligible to negotiate pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs this month. It will be interesting to see if the 20-year-old is prepared to head to the Premier League this month or wait until the summer transfer window to join Leeds United on a free transfer.

As per reports, the Belgian outfit have been trying to agree on a new contract with the player. But they have been unsuccessful in their attempts so far. Apparently, the youngster wants to play regular first-team football and has not had that opportunity because of Simon Mignolet.

Lammens is not keen on extending his deal with Club Brugge and wants a move so that he can play regularly. It will be interesting to see if Leeds United can provide the 20-year-old Belgian goalkeeper with such assurances ahead of a potential transfer.

The Premier League outfit already have a talented young goalkeeper in Illan Meslier, and the 22-year-old is undoubtedly the first-choice goalkeeper at Elland Road. It is highly unlikely that Lammens will displace him as the club’s first-choice shot-stopper in the coming months.

That said, Meslier has been linked with a move away from Leeds in recent months amid interest from Chelsea. Apparently, Premier League clubs like Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are also keeping tabs on the Frenchman as potential replacements for Hugo Lloris and David de Gea.

Time will tell whether Leeds are eyeing up a move for the 20-year-old Club Brugge talent as a potential replacement for Meslier. For now, the Whites are closing in on signing the 20-year-old Belgian goalkeeper. There is no doubt that Lammens is a prodigious talent for the big future ahead of him

But he needs to join a club where he will get regular first-team opportunities. A move to Leeds might not be ideal for him unless the Premier League outfit are prepared to part ways with Meslier and hand him the starting berth next season.
