Aston Villa interested in Lee Kang-in

Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing South Korean attacker Lee Kang-in from La Liga outfit RCD Mallorca.

According to a report from Fichajes, 21-year-old South Korean attacker Lee Kang-in is on the radar of Aston Villa. And the Villans are looking to bring him in from La Liga club RCD Mallorca before the January transfer window closes.

Lee Kang-in has done reasonably well for Mallorca this season, and he has two goals and four assists to his name across all competitions. The South Korean international can play on either flank, and he can operate as an attacking midfielder as well. His versatility will be an added bonus for Emery.

Aston Villa need to add more attacking quality to their side and the 21-year-old will certainly add more cutting edge in the final third. The opportunity to move to the Premier League is likely to be an attractive proposition for the 21-year-old, and he could be tempted to leave La Liga club Mallorca for Aston Ailla.

Furthermore, Lee would get to work with a reputed manager like Unai Emery, who will help him improve at the West Midlands club. The South Korean is highly rated around Europe and could prove to be a quality long-term addition to the Premier League club. The 21-year-old is yet to reach his peak. And a top-class manager like Emery will only help him develop further.

In addition to that, moving to the Premier League will only accelerate the young attacker’s development. Lee will be playing against top-class opposition on a weekly basis, and that can only help him improve as a footballer. Meanwhile, Aston Villa have also shown interest in other attackers based in La Liga, including Nicolas Jackson.

The likes of Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins have not been able to contribute on a consistent basis this season, and Villa will need to strengthen their attacking department to finish the season strongly. There is no doubt that the West Midlands club have improved considerably since the arrival of Emery as their manager. But they are in need of January reinforcements to finish the season in the top half.

The South Korean has a contract with the Spanish club until the summer of 2025. And Mallorca could look to demand a considerable sum of money for his services. It remains to be seen whether the two clubs can come to an agreement before the January window closes.
