Liverpool keen on Teun Koopmeiners

Liverpool have identified Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners as their next midfield target as Jurgen Klopp is very keen to bring the player to Anfield.

As per inews, Liverpool are monitoring the progress of Atalanta’s Teun Koopmeiners and could launch a potential swoop for the player. The Reds could lose multiple midfielders next summer and a contingency plan should be in place.

A move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham could be in the offing next summer but Liverpool would need more than Bellingham as far as their recent performance stands.

There has been a drastic fall in their quality this season and Klopp will have to plan very meticulously to figure out what has gone wrong so far. They brought in Cody Gakpo to fill in the absence of Luis Diaz but the actual problem lies in the midfield.

Neither Thiago Alcantara nor Jordan Henderson have managed to churn out consistent performances regularly while the likes of James Milner and Naby Keita are on the verge of leaving the club next summer.

Klopp did bring Arthur from Juventus but the Brazilian underwent surgery and there is no exact time frame of his return to the pitch. Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders’ growing influence at the club can be witnessed as the Dutch has been pretty vocal regarding transfers.

He used his Portuguese intelligence to sanction deals for Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz and he also convinced the management to use their available resources to snatch Gakpo.

It is believed Koopmeiners is in the top of his list and the highly-rated midfielder has already been touted as Liverpool’s next target. The 24-year-old can offer his service from a number of positions and can even be utilised in the backline if needed.

Liverpool’s Dutch contingent is growing bigger and bigger and with Koopmeiners’ addition a whole new dimension could be created. He could prove to be a shrewd addition but Atalanta would charge a steep compensation keeping in mind his value.

The Reds are in some serious need of reinforcements and their latest defeat at the hand of Brentford further pushed things beyond the limit. A move in January seems pretty unlikely as it would be pretty hard to fund the move at this juncture.
