Tottenham interested in Azzedine Ounahi

Tottenham are eyeing Azzedine Ounahi after an impressive World Cup campaign, but they face competition from Leicester City.

According to La Repubblica, Tottenham have joined the hunt for Azzedine Ounahi in January as Antonio Conte eyes a different kind of midfielder to improve his team. Leicester City are still considered the front-runners for the Moroccan international, who will cost €35 million.

Azzedine Ounahi was sensational at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, producing some accomplished and consistent performances for Morocco. He helped his team create history by becoming the first-ever African side to reach the semi-finals of the grand tournament.

He also received massive praise from rival managers, with Luis Enrique among those hyping the midfielder following Spain’s loss to Morocco. His club, Angers, will have been happy after the World Cup as they brace themselves for big offers in January for the midfielder.

Ounahi’s market value shot up after the World Cup, and Angers seem open to cashing in in this window for €35 million. Leicester City came in early with interest, with reports suggesting the Foxes were ready to pay big for the Moroccan midfielder.

Ounahi may be waiting on more offers because a deal with Leicester is not agreed upon yet. The Foxes are considered front-runners for the midfielder’s signature. And they are now joined by Tottenham in the hunt, as Antonio Conte seeks quality reinforcements to improve his squad’s quality.

Ounahi, with his energetic presence, could prove a catalyst for Spurs to improve their chances of finishing in the top four. Tottenham have slipped down from fourth place following dropped points since the restart, with the team yet to win after playing two games.

Following their recent loss to Aston Villa, the pressure has mounted on Conte to use the window and bring in reinforcements. They have ample midfielders but none that would connect all three areas of the pitch. They are linked with names like Franck Kessie, among others. But in this case, Ounahi may seem like the perfect player for Spurs.

The Moroccan international will cost €35 million, and there are question marks whether Tottenham are willing to pay the right price. If Conte sees value in the signing, Spurs may begin negotiations with Angers over a move. But they may have to act fast as Leicester City are front-runners in the chase.
