Fulham set sights on Abdoulaye Doucoure

Fulham are interested in Abdoulaye Doucoure as Marco Silva plots a cut-price deal for the Everton midfielder, with whom he has worked before.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Fulham could target Abdoulaye Doucoure in January as Marco Silva eyes midfield reinforcements. The Cottagers’ boss has previously worked with the Everton midfielder on two occasions and could eye a cut-price move for the 29-year-old.

Marco Silva has cast doubters aside following a bright start to Fulham’s season upon their return to the Premier League. The Cottagers went into the World Cup break in ninth place, only two points off a UEFA Europa Conference League spot.

The Fulham boss wants to capitalise on their position and strengthen his squad sufficiently for a tricky second part of the season. While Fulham have quashed any fears of a relegation battle, Silva has the tools to let the club progress beyond expectations set at the start of the campaign.

From reports emerging about potential transfer targets, it is clear Fulham want a new right-back and a midfielder. Any other position could see reinforcements if an opportunity arises. Arsenal’s Cedric Soares is inching closer to joining the Cottagers. But any prospective deal is yet to progress sufficiently.

Fulham are also linked with several midfielders, with Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucoure emerging as a potential target. Silva knows the 29-year-old midfielder quite well after managing him on two occasions with Watford and Everton.

Doucoure has plenty of Premier League experience and could help the Cottagers in their quest for progress this term. The Everton midfielder’s contract will expire in the summer, although the Toffees can extend the deal by another season.

The Merseyside outfit will further understand the magnitude of the interest in the player from elsewhere before they decide on triggering the extension clause. For now, Fulham will hope to get Doucoure on a cut-price deal. But if the Everton midfielder’s contract is extended, the price might go a little higher.

How much Fulham are willing to spend on the 29-year-old Everton midfielder remains the question, but it may be a fair value considering his contractual situation. The Toffees spent £25 million to sign him in 2020, and they may have to endure a massive loss on their investment in Doucoure.
