AS Roma will step up their interest in Barcelona defender Hector Bellerin, with Jose Mourinho hunting a new right-back for his team.
As per Calciomercato, Serie A giants AS Roma are eyeing a move for Barcelona defender Hector Bellerin, who has fallen down the pecking order. The Spanish international’s imminent future has been a subject of speculation, and he could leave Camp Nou in January.
Hector Bellerin left Arsenal and joined Barcelona on a permanent deal as the Gunners terminated his contract to facilitate a move for him. But it has not been an ideal situation for the player who has failed to make his mark pretty vigorously.
Even Alejandro Balde has been used as a makeshift right-back as Xavi does not have much confidence in the 27-year-old. In addition, Bellerin’s injury issues, too, have not helped him much. The Barcelona academy product has started just one match in La Liga and perhaps, the time has come up to embark on a new challenge. That is where the interest from AS Roma appears.
Rick Karsdorp is unlikely to be involved further following his recent fallout with Jose Mourinho, and Roma need to find a solution as soon as possible. Barcelona’s current financial situation is a mess. And in an order to bring stability, they need to offload some of the players in their books.
It is suggested Roma will ask to remove Bellerin’s price tag and will ponder a free transfer for the player as long as the player is convinced to join the Serie A giants. Barcelona would manage to free up a lot of wages by letting Bellerin leave the club, and it could be a win-win situation for both parties.
Mourinho quite likes the Barcelona defender and will offer him an opportunity to revive his fortunes under his guidance. The Spanish international had some memorable moments in his career during his time with Arsenal, and he will try to encash that experience in Serie A.
Roma have seen a drastic drop in their quality of football, and the arrival of Bellerin could resurrect their options. They are lagging in the Serie A title race but will be competing for a place in the UEFA Champions League next season.
