Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing in 33-year-old German goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler from Hannover 96.
According to a report from Bild, Liverpool are keen on signing Ron-Robert Zieler as a replacement for Adrian San Miguel. The Spanish goalkeeper will be out of contract at the end of the season, and Jurgen Klopp is looking to bring in reinforcements at the end of the season.
Zieler has played in the Premier League before with Leicester City and Manchester United. It will be interesting to see if he is willing to move to Merseyside as an understudy of Brazilian international Alisson Becker.
Adrian will be a free agent in the coming months, and it makes sense for Liverpool to bring in a reserve goalkeeper. The Reds have already shown interest in other Germany-based goalkeepers, including Patrick Drewes.
Liverpool have the talented Irish youngster Caoimhin Kelleher in their squad as well. But it will not be surprising if the young shot-stopper decided to leave the club in search of regular game time.
The 23-year-old is immensely talented with a big future ahead of him. He needs regular game time to fulfil his potential and he is unlikely to get an opportunity at Anfield. Kelleher has impressed every time he has been given an opportunity, and he helped Liverpool win the League Cup last season.
The young Irishman should have no shortage of suitors if he is made available at the end of the season. Meanwhile, the 33-year-old German goalkeeper will be out of contract in the summer as well, and he will be available on a free transfer. Liverpool will do well to sign a player of his experience for a bargain.
The German international is hugely experienced and he was a part of the World Cup-winning squad in 2014. Signing Zieler will allow the Premier League giants to strengthen the other areas of the squad during the summer transfer window. Liverpool could be set for a major rebuild at the end of the season, with their midfield and defence in need of reinforcements.
