Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly weighing up the prospect of replacing wantaway Antonio Conte with Brentford manager Thomas Frank as they plan to build their project up from scratch.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Tottenham Hotspur are considering a move for Brentford manager Thomas Frank if current boss Antonio Conte leaves at the end of the season.
The report adds that Spurs are on the lookout for a replacement for the Italian head coach, whose future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is uncertain due to interest from Juventus.
The one-time Premier League winner has excelled since joining Spurs, guiding them to a top-four finish, which looked improbable at one point last season.
They have also got off to a strong start this season, albeit playing a pragmatic counter-attacking style of football. Sitting third in the Premier League ahead of the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, and Liverpool is by no means an easy feat, while they still have a good chance to advance to the Round of 16 of the Champions League ahead of Tuesday’s game against Marseille.
Conte also engineered a stunning comeback on Saturday, when Tottenham fought back from a 2-0 deficit after 57 minutes to beat Bournemouth 3-2. His recent success with Spurs has not gone unnoticed, as the club hierarchy are keen to hand out a new contract to the Italian manager.
The Lilywhites are locked in negotiations over a new long-term contract with Conte. However, the talks are progressing no further, with Conte wanting to hold his cards in case the Juventus position opens up with current Bianconeri boss Massimiliano Allegri under fire after a terrible start to the campaign.
Tottenham looks to be planning for alternatives if Conte decides to depart at the end of the season. According to Fichajes, the Premier League outfit has shortlisted three possible replacements for the 53-year-old Italian manager.
Former Lilywhites’ boss Mauricio Pochettino remains an attractive proposition on their radar owing to his free agency, and he did an excellent job during his first spell at the North London club. Knowing the club inside-out and having a positive working relationship with current stars Harry Kane and Heung-min Son certainly makes him a top candidate.
Another interesting name among their list of targets is that of Brentford boss Thomas Frank. The Dane first joined Brentford as an assistant coach under Dean Smith before being promoted to the top job.
The Bees’ progressed steadily under his watch, finishing mid-table in the Championship in his debut season, reaching playoffs in the second year, before gaining a remarkable promotion to the Premier League in 2021 via the Championship playoffs.
Since then, the 49-year-old has garnered plaudits for his tactical intelligence and the Bees’ overperformance in finishing 13th in their first season back in the promised land on a shoestring budget.
Frank ticks all the boxes of being a proactive modern coach with innovative ideas and the ability to alter his tactics during the game according to the opposition’s strengths and weaknesses, as well as deploying a positive brand of football and recruiting the right players.
While he has yet to prove himself at the highest level and his ability to handle high-profile players, neither did Pochettino when he moved from Southampton to Spurs, and that worked out well.
