Liverpool and Chelsea have reportedly been linked with a move for 20-year-old Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo.

According to a report from Football Insider, Premier League giants Liverpool and Chelsea are keeping tabs on Ecuadorian international Moises Caicedo and they could make their move at the end of the season.

The 20-year-old has established himself as a key player for Brighton & Hove Albion since joining the club in 2021 for a fee of around £4.5 million. Caicedo is highly rated in the Premier League, and he has a big future ahead of him. It is no surprise that the Premier League big guns are eyeing up a potential move for him in the coming months.

Both Chelsea and Liverpool could use more quality and depth in their midfield, and Caicedo would be a quality long-term acquisition for them.

Liverpool’s midfield worries are well documented, and Jurgen Klopp will need to bring in a quality replacement for James Milner. Furthermore, Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Thiago Alcantara have all been injury prone in recent seasons, and the Reds must dip into the transfer market to bring in a couple of central midfielders.

Caicedo can operate as a central midfielder as well as a defensive midfielder, and the technically-gifted youngster would be up quality fit for Klopp’s style of play at Liverpool. The 20-year-old has shown his quality in the Premier League with Brighton, and there is no reason why he cannot adapt to Liverpool’s high-pressing style of play.

A world-class manager like Klopp could help him fulfil his tremendous potential at Anfield. In addition, Caicedo is not the only central midfielder Liverpool are keeping tabs on. Apparently, Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham remains a priority target for the Reds as well.

Both Caicedo and Bellingham are prodigious young talents with a bright future ahead of them. It would be a major coup if Liverpool managed to rejuvenate their struggling midfield unit with the signings of the two players at the end of the season.

The opportunity to join a club like Liverpool is a tempting proposition for most players around the world and the Brighton youngster will find it difficult to turn down the move if a concrete offer is presented in the coming months. But with Chelsea also in the hunt for Caicedo, the Reds might have to step up their efforts to prise the 20-year-old away from the Amex Stadium.
