Manchester United offer €11 million-a-year deal to Kevin Trapp

Manchester United could offer a bumper €11 million-a-year salary package to tempt Kevin Trapp into signing for the club.

According to Sport1, Manchester United are stepping up their efforts to sign Kevin Trapp from Eintracht Frankfurt before the summer transfer window closes. The Red Devils could offer a bumper €11 million-a-year salary package to the German international to tempt him into moving to Old Trafford.

Manchester United’s season took a different turn after Erik ten Hag registered his first competitive victory as manager. The Red Devils got the better of Liverpool at Old Trafford, which boosted their confidence and improved the club’s overall mood.

The Premier League giants are suddenly buoyant and could use it in their pursuit of transfer targets before the transfer window shuts. There is just over a week before the deadline, and Manchester United still have plenty of work to do.

The club could look to bring a new winger with Ajax’s Antony or PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo, one of the likely arrivals. Having already signed Casemiro from Real Madrid, Manchester United may focus on signing a new goalkeeper who could come in and compete for the starting berth with David de Gea.

De Gea received plenty of stick for his performances during the second half of last season. The Spanish star has not started particularly well this season either, having made a terrible error against Brentford in Gameweek 2.

Manchester United are in the market for a goalkeeper, although they have not had any luck so far. Leeds United were not interested in selling Illan Meslier earlier this window and that has forced them to look elsewhere.

Moreover, Dean Henderson has joined Nottingham Forest on loan, and in hindsight, he could have been the perfect keeper for ten Hag’s system of playing out from the back. De Gea is not a shot-stopper with great distribution, and that could force the Red Devils to bring in a competitive option.

Manchester United have already made an offer for Kevin Trapp and are awaiting Eintracht Frankfurt’s answer over their proposal. The German international is in contention for a spot in Hansi Flick’s squad for the World Cup, and he will want to play regularly at the club level.

At Manchester United, he will have to wrestle for a place with de Gea, but Trapp’s quality on the ball could make his job a lot easier. The Red Devils are taking further steps to prise the goalkeeper to Old Trafford and they are prepared to offer a bumper €11 million-a-year salary package to tempt him.

That salary, alongside a long-term contract, would appease any player, let alone the 32-year-old Eintracht Frankfurt star. The Bundesliga outfit does not want to lose Trapp at this stage. However, if the player decides the move suits him, Manchester United might just be able to close in on him before the deadline.
