Newcastle United in pole position to sign Tanguy Ndombele

Newcastle United are in pole position to sign Tottenham outcast Tanguy Ndombele, although they face competition from Villarreal.

According to Media Foot Marseille, Tanguy Ndombele is a target for Newcastle United, who are keen to strengthen their squad significantly before the transfer window closes. The Tottenham outcast has plenty of interest from other clubs, with Villarreal coming across as tough competitors for the Magpies in the chase for the Frenchman.

Tottenham are keen to resolve Tanguy Ndombele’s future one way or another, as the north London side are eager to offload the Frenchman. With three years remaining on his contract, Spurs are open to letting him depart on loan, but things may have changed in their favour in the last few days.

Ndombele’s big move from Lyon in 2019 created excitement among the Spurs fanbase, but the midfielder has been unconvincing since joining the club. Despite occasional flashes of brilliance, the midfielder has failed to convince at least four Spurs managers to date and is destined to move away from the team.

Ndombele spent the second half of last season on loan at Lyon, but the French club decided not to take up the buy option inserted in the operation. He returned to Tottenham for pre-season, but Antonio Conte axed the Frenchman from his travelling group to Korea, alongside three other high-profile players.

Ndombele has plenty of suitors from Italy, France and Spain. Marseille have been linked with a move, while there is interest from Napoli as well. But the midfielder is eager to evaluate all offers coming in for him before taking a decision. And a Premier League club is now keen on the Frenchman, with Newcastle United looking to make an offer.

The Magpies have been shrewd with their recruitment process and have spent wisely this summer. Sven Botman has been their most significant signing so far, which could change if they are successful in their pursuit of Ndombele.

Bruno Guimaraes has been a solid acquisition, but manager Eddie Howe will welcome a midfield addition if it improves the quality and depth of the squad. The report suggests Newcastle could further their interest in Ndombele with a firm offer and are leading the race for the French international, who is valued at €50 million by Tottenham.

However, Newcastle face competition from Villarreal, who are already closing in on Spurs midfielder Giovani Lo Celso. They were reportedly in talks with Spurs over a potential swap deal involving Ndombele and Pervis Estupinan, although it led to nothing. But, Villarreal are now considering a standalone loan move for Ndombele.

If Newcastle United make a firm offer, Spurs are likely to consider it even if it means strengthening a fellow Premier League club. As things stand, Ndombele does not have a future in north London and will be looking at offers in front of him. Whether he opts to stay in England by joining the Magpies or moves to a different league remains to be seen.
