Barcelona are reportedly ready to listen to offers for 21-year-old American right-back Sergino Dest this summer.
According to ESPN, La Liga giants Barcelona are prepared to listen to offers for USMNT right-back Sergino Dest. The 21-year-old joined Barcelona in the 2020 summer transfer window for €20 million but could now be on his way out of Camp Nou before the summer transfer window slams shut.
Dest was not among the players who were considered for possible sales in the ongoing transfer window by the Blaugrana and manager Xavi Hernandez. However, their failure to offload the players put on the transfer list means Barcelona are now looking at other options to balance their books.
The Catalan giants are in desperate need to offload players to lighten their wage bill and make space on their wage bill to register new signings. There have been, so far, five arrivals at Camp Nou this summer with Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski, Andreas Christensen, Franck Kessie and Jules Kounde all joining Barcelona.
Dest could be one of the players on their way out of the club to make way for new signings, with the Catalan giants ready to listen to offers for the former Ajax defender. Barcelona are also set to enter talks for Chelsea right-back Cesar Azpilicueta, who just has a year remaining on his contract with the Blues.
The Spaniard’s possible arrival will push Dest down the pecking order at Barcelona, but he will still be the second choice for the right-back spot. However, as per the report by ESPN, Xavi is ready to let Dest leave and have the likes of Sergi Roberto, Ronald Araujo and Kounde as his other options.
Barcelona had put Neto, Oscar Mingueza, Samuel Umtiti, Riqui Puig and Martin Braithwaite on the transfer market ahead of their pre-season tour, but none of these players has been able to find a club yet. Miralem Pjanic and Memphis Depay are also expected to be sold this summer.
Frenkie de Jong’s transfer saga has been well documented, with the Catalan giants agreeing on a transfer fee with Manchester United. But their reluctance to pay the Dutchman his owed deferred wages has stalled the deal. As far as Dest is concerned, Barcelona have put a €20 million price tag on him with Manchester United among the clubs showing interest.
