Former Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has suggested that Sasa Kalajdzic could struggle if he joins the Red Devils this summer.
Speaking to Kronen Zeitung, as relayed by Sport Witness, former Bayern Munich and Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has claimed that Sasa Kalajdzic could find it difficult to cope with the jump in level if he were to join the Red Devils this summer.
Kalajdzic has been with VfB Stuttgart since 2019, when he joined from Austrian outfit Admira Wacker and has performed well, bagging 24 goals in 57 matches in all competitions. He missed a large chunk of the previous season due to serious injury issues. But the Austrian’s stock remains high as ever, with clubs like Bayern Munich and Manchester United showing an interest.
Bayern Munich are looking at Kalajdzic as a possible replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who has joined Barcelona this summer. As for Manchester United, the Red Devils are on the 25-year-old’s trail as they look for a new No. 9 amidst the uncertainty surrounding the future of Cristiano Ronaldo. The 37-year-old Portuguese icon has asked the club to terminate his contract so that he can leave Old Trafford.
Kalajdzic has thus emerged as a target on both clubs’ radars. However, Schweinsteiger, who played for both Bayern Munich and Manchester United, has now suggested that a move to either team could be too big a jump for the Austrian international at this point in his career.
“I have a high regard for Sasa. (He is) a slightly different centre-forward, not done developing yet. Now he has to reach the next level, but from my experience, maybe the jump would be too big,” Schweinsteiger insisted during his interview.
Kalajdzic has done well during his time in Germany, but he does lack experience at the highest level, especially in continental competitions. And replacing players like Lewandowski and Ronaldo would be a huge task for any player.
So, it will be interesting to see whether Bayern Munich or Manchester United are going to make a push for the 25-year-old Austrian international, especially after his injury ordeals in the 2021/22 campaign, during which he played just 15 games, scoring six goals.
