La Liga giants Barcelona have reportedly ruled out a summer move for 25-year-old former Real Madrid left-back Sergio Reguilon.
According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Barcelona have decided against making a move for Tottenham Hotspur left-back Sergio Reguilon. The 25-year-old Spanish international has previously played for Real Madrid, which convinced Barcelona to opt out of a possible move for him this summer.
Reguilon joined Tottenham from Real Madrid in the 2020 summer transfer window after 15 years with the Spanish giants. Before his Premier League move, he had also spent a season on loan at Sevilla.
While the 25-year-old was among the regulars under former manager Jose Mourinho, he does not feature in current head coach Antonio Conte’s plans going forward. And Tottenham are willing to part ways with the Spaniard this summer.
In all, Reguilon has made 67 appearances for the north London club, scoring two times and assisting nine goals in the process. However, even with three years left on his contract, the former Real Madrid defender seems destined for an exit in the ongoing transfer window, especially following the arrival of Ivan Perisic.
Barcelona were among the clubs previously linked with the full-back, but they have pulled the plug on a possible move after learning that Reguilon is a die-hard Real Madrid fan, having played for Los Blancos since a tender age. The Tottenham defender himself is not inclined towards moving to Barcelona due to his former association with their arch-rivals.
Meanwhile, Tottenham are plotting a possible exchange deal to sign Sevilla defender Jules Kounde which could see Reguilon return to the Spanish club. Spurs are also planning to include Giovani Lo Celso in the deal to convince Sevilla into selling the French centre-back.
However, the Andalusian club are only willing to accept a cash offer, and it seems that Chelsea have taken the lead in his pursuit. Barcelona, too, have shown interest in Kounde but are yet to make an official offer for the defender. The Blaugrana, on the other hand, are targeting Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso, who has just a year left on his contract with the Blues.
