Leeds United interested in Carney Chukwuemeka

Leeds United have reportedly entered the race to sign Carney Chukwuemeka, who could be offloaded by Aston Villa.

According to Daily Mail, as related by MOT Leeds News, Leeds United have expressed the desire to sign Carney Chukwuemeka. The Aston Villa whizkid is regarded as one of the most gifted midfielders in English football, and naturally, he has been on the crosshairs of several English clubs in the past.

Leeds United are no exception, with the report suggesting that the Yorkshire giants are aiming to wrap up the youngster before his current contract at Aston Villa expires in 2023. Previous reports have claimed that Aston Villa are open to sanctioning the sale of the youngster, who has appeared reluctant to renew his contract at Villa Park.

Chukwuemeka only featured in 294 minutes of league football for Aston Villa this past season, which is not enough for a player of his calibre. His lack of game-time has played a key role behind his decision to not extend his contract at Villa Park. But at the same time, the 18-year-old whizkid wants to move elsewhere in search of a new beginning.

That is where Leeds United come into the picture. Dealt with the blow of losing Kalvin Phillips to Manchester City, the Whites have added a few midfielders to their ranks in the form of Marc Roca and Tyler Adams this summer.

However, it is clear that coach Jesse Marsch wants more options at his disposal, especially considering how much the club struggled with injuries last term. With that in mind, Carney Chukwuemeka has emerged as the ideal target for Leeds United, as the youngster has showcased immense potential and is regarded as one of the top young players in the country.

A central midfielder by trade, the 18-year-old can offer urgency, enthusiasm and work ethic in the middle of the park. It should go hand in hand with Marsch’s tactical setup that revolves around athleticism and discipline. The youngster could thus become an ideal backup for the likes of Adams and Roca at Leeds next season.

However, Leeds United are set to face stiff competition in the race to sign Chukwuemeka. The Aston Villa whizkid is also targeted by European giants PSG and Barcelona, with the latter already in talks with the midfielder over the prospect of a potential move to Camp Nou in the coming weeks.
