PSG emerges as a possible destination for Tanguy Ndombele

Paris Saint-Germain could reportedly provide an escape route to out-of-favour Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tanguy Ndombele this summer.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tanguy Ndombele could return to his homeland France this summer, with Paris Saint-Germain emerging as a potential destination for the out-of-favour star.

Ndombele joined Tottenham from Lyon in a club-record transfer in the summer of 2019 but endured a tough initiation in London. Having failed to make a mark under Mauricio Pochettino, the Frenchman completely fell out of favour under Jose Mourinho, who replaced Pochettino as the Spurs manager in 2019.

While Ndombele showed some signs of revival in the 2020/21 campaign, he was still nowhere near the level expected and after failing to win over both Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte, the 25-year-old returned to Lyon on loan in January earlier this year, enjoying a decent time, although the French club decided against signing him permanently.

Now back at Tottenham, Ndombele had recently hinted that he might stay at the club beyond the summer. However, after being left behind by Conte for Spurs’ pre-season trip to South Korea, the French international’s fate seems to have been sealed, with an exit from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on the horizon.

There have been reports of interest from Italian giants AS Roma and Lazio. And now, PSG’s name has also been thrown in the hat as a possible destination for the 25-year-old Ndombele.

PSG have been linked with a move for the French ace in the past but nothing ever came of it. However, with Ndombele completely falling out of favour at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and with his market value also taking a hit, the Ligue 1 champions could fancy their chances of landing the midfielder this summer.

While PSG have signed Vitinha to strengthen their midfield, players like Idrissa Gueye, Leandro Paredes and Georginio Wijnaldum could be moved on by new manager Christophe Galtier, which would accentuate the need for a new midfielder at Parc des Princes. Renato Sanches has been linked heavily, but Ndombele, too, could be an option for the Ligue 1 champions.

Ndombele still has three years left on his contract at Tottenham. But it is clear that the Tottenham midfielder does not feature in the manager’s plans. And after three years of struggles, a permanent move away would be the best possible solution for both parties.
