Newcastle United enquire about Jack Harrison

Newcastle United have reportedly made an enquiry about Leeds United winger Jack Harrison.

According to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook on Give Me Sport, Newcastle United are exploring the possibility of signing Leeds United winger Jack Harrison. The Magpies have made a formal enquiry for the 25-year-old, who still has two years left on his contract with the Whites.

Eddie Howe’s side are in the market to strengthen their attack and have now turned their attention towards other targets following the failure of their pursuit of Stade Reims’ Hugo Ekitike. Harrison is among the players being considered by the Newcastle board.

Having represented Liverpool and Manchester United at the youth level, Harrison was bought by Manchester City in January 2018 from their sister club New York City FC. He was immediately loaned out to Middlesbrough before being sent to Leeds upon his return the following summer.

Harrison has been with Leeds since the 2018 summer window, but his move was only made permanent last year. In four seasons with the Whites, the left-winger has made 166 appearances, scoring 28 and assisting 22 goals. He also helped Leeds gain promotion to the Premier League and then stay in the English top flight.

Harrison’s eight league goals in the 2021/22 season were crucial in ensuring Leeds manage to avoid relegation. Jesse Marsch is believed to be a big fan of the winger and is reluctant to sanction his sale, especially as the Whites are set to lose both Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips.

Newcastle had been showing interest in the 25-year-old since before the season came to an end. They were waiting to learn of Leeds’ future in the Premier League, which would or wouldn’t have facilitated their move for Harrison. Tottenham were also reportedly eyeing a summer move for the 25-year-old Englishman, but it is unlikely that the Whites will let him leave this summer.

talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook confirmed that while Newcastle have made an enquiry, Leeds asking price is ‘too hefty’. “There’s some interest in Harrison. I know Newcastle have enquired, but at the moment, the price tag is too hefty,” Crook told Give Me Sport. The player is currently valued at £17 million by the CIES Observatory.

Newcastle wish to add another wide forward to their ranks to relieve some pressure from the shoulders of Allan Saint-Maximin. However, a move for Harrison seems unlikely this summer.
