Manchester United are reportedly willing to shell out €30 million to secure the signing of Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries this summer.
According to Italian outlet L’Interista, Manchester United are ready to pay a sum of €30 million to sign Netherlands full-back Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan in the ongoing transfer window.
Dumfries joined Inter Milan only last summer from PSV Eindhoven and enjoyed a solid debut season in Italy. The 26-year-old finished the 2021/22 campaign with a tally of five goals and seven assists from 45 matches across all competitions, impressing the onlookers with his attacking qualities.
However, Inter Milan’s financial situation means they might have to bid goodbye to some of their star players this summer. Milan Skriniar could be on his way out amid interest from Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain. And Denzel Dumfries could be another star who could be shown the exit doors should a sizeable offer arrive.
Manchester United have shown an interest in signing Dumfries and are ready to stump up €30 million to sign the Netherlands right-back. After a slow start to the transfer window, the Red Devils are starting to make moves as they close in on the capture of Dumfries’s compatriot Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona.
Manchester United are also set to capture another Dutch star in Tyrell Malacia to strengthen their options at left-back. With a move for the 22-year-old all but finalised, Erik ten Hag’s side are now focusing on adding a new right-sided full-back to their roster.
As things stand, Manchester United have Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot as the senior options at right-back. But the club have decided to let go of Wan-Bissaka this summer and are already offering him to clubs. Academy products Ethan Laird and Brandon Williams are also candidates for the position, but the former lacks experience while the latter has also been made available for a summer transfer.
So, a new right-back will need to be signed this summer. And Dumfries is among the players that Manchester United are considering. The 26-year-old is an experienced individual and has proven his pedigree at the club and international level. At 26, he is entering the prime years of his career and can fit into ten Hag’s system at Manchester United.
However, considering his contract with Inter Milan runs until 2025, it is likely that the Nerazzurri might hold out for a larger sum than the €30 million that Manchester United are prepared to pay.
