Leeds United have reportedly made their move to land 26-year-old Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Adama Traore this summer.
According to Football Insider, Yorkshire giants Leeds United have approached Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers regarding a summer move for 26-year-old winger Adama Traore.
The Spanish international is set to enter the final year of his contract at the Molineux and looks set to move on this summer. Selling Traore this summer is likely to get Wolves a sizable transfer fee as the longer they wait, the chances of him closing in on a Bosman exit will rise.
The 26-year-old can play anywhere along the frontline and, when on a good run of form, is a difficult player to pin down. Not only does Traore have good ball control, but he also possesses the physicality and athleticism to blast through opposition defenders, leaving them in disarray.
Traore spent the second half of the 2021/22 campaign on loan at Barcelona. The former La Masia graduate showed moments of magic but did little to convince his former club to make the switch permanent this summer. The Catalan giants have instead shifted their attention to Leeds United ace Raphinha, who is also keen to move to Camp Nou.
The Brazilian was Leeds’s standout performer last season, and losing him would be a massive blow to Jesse Marsch. The Whites are seeking a ball carrier this summer, and in Traore, they have a fine candidate who meets the criteria.
Wolves are ready to cash in on their man after talks regarding a new deal failed to get anywhere. Traore’s ability largely remains untapped, and landing a player of such ability for a mere £18 million should be a no-brainer for Leeds. He could prove to be the centre-piece of a new-look side looking to rebuild after the Marcelo Bielsa era.
Leeds director of football Victor Orta is a fan of the 26-year-old and had previously signed him during his time at Middlesbrough. The chance of repeating history, this time at Elland Road, could prove tempting for the Leeds honcho. And the Whites have already approached Wolves over a move for the Spanish international.
Either way, Traore’s time at the Molineux appears to be coming to an end. At 26, he is entering his prime and is also a proven talent in the Premier League. Jesse Marsch has a reputation for developing potential, and in Traore, the Leeds boss could be about to unlock a truly world-class player.
