Leeds United interested in Colin Dagba

Premier League side Leeds United are reportedly among five clubs interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain right-back Colin Dagba.

According to Foot Mercato, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) right-back Colin Dagba is attracting interest from all around Europe, including from Premier League side Leeds United. Other than the Whites, Ligue 1 side Strasbourg, La Liga outfit Villarreal, Bundesliga sides Eintracht Frankfurt and Mainz are also tracking the 23-year-old.

New PSG sporting director Luis Campos has set the ball rolling and is working on multiple incomings and outgoings in the transfer market. One of his first transfer dealings could be the sale of Dagba, who has failed to cement a spot in the PSG starting line-up and is looking for greener pastures.

The defender was linked with a loan move to Spanish club Mallorca in the January transfer window. Arsenal were said to be interested in a temporary move as well. But the then-PSG sporting director Leonardo had blocked the move as the French giants’ first-choice right-back Achraf Hakimi was playing the Africa Cup of Nations.

However, Dagba didn’t get the minutes he was promised, making a total of three Ligue 1 appearances all season. Following Hakimi’s departure to the AFCON, he made just one league appearance, which further convinced him to look for greener pastures come the summer.

Though the French giants were reluctant to let him leave in January, they are prepared to let the former France Under-21 international leave this summer with quite a few interested parties. While Strasbourg are just the one side from France tracking the youngster, there are other clubs showing interest as well.

Leeds United, Villarreal, Eintracht Frankfurt and Mainz are all keeping tabs on Dagba, who has two years remaining on his contract with PSG. All these clubs are well-equipped financially to meet PSG’s and the player’s demands this summer.

As far as Leeds are concerned, Jesse Marsch’s side had Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas as their two right-backs last season and he is eager to add reinforcements to the department. The Whites narrowly avoided relegation and Marsch doesn’t fancy a repeat and is thus keen to strengthen his side ahead of the next season.

They have already completed the signing of attacking midfielder Brenden Aaronson from Red Bull Salzburg, while also bringing in Rasmus Kristensen from the Austrian club as well, which should provide them with depth in the right-back slot. So, the interest in Dagba does come as a surprise, although with Ayling’s contract expiring in 2023, the PSG ace could be viewed as a long-term replacement.
