Frenkie de Jong has addressed the rumours linking him with a summer move from Barcelona to Manchester United.
Addressing the media after the Netherlands’ UEFA Nations League clash against Poland, Frenkie de Jong has spoken out on the transfer speculations linking him with a move from Barcelona to Manchester United in the summer window.
The 25-year-old midfielder finds himself at the centre of one of the biggest transfer stories of the summer so far as Manchester United are pushing hard to sign him from Barcelona. The Red Devils’ interest stems from the lack of quality in midfield, and new manager Erik ten Hag is intent on adding his former Ajax protege to his ranks at Old Trafford.
Barcelona, for their part, appear open to selling de Jong as they look at the midfielder as a possible ticket out of their financial troubles. Negotiations between the two clubs are reportedly underway, with Barcelona already rejecting an offer worth €60 million plus €10 million in add-ons from Manchester United for the Dutch midfielder.
With talks supposedly ongoing, de Jong was quizzed after the game between the Netherlands and Poland, which ended in a 2-2 draw, if he was going to swap Barcelona for Manchester United this summer.

As quoted by the Manchester Evening News, the reporter asked the Barcelona star: “Are you going from the beaches of Catalonia to the cold of Manchester?” Laughing after being asked the question, de Jong replied, saying: “No… I think… I can’t say anything.”
Frenkie de Jong was reported to be reluctant to join Manchester United in the recent past due to their absence from the UEFA Champions League next season. However, he has seemingly given the green light to a move as Barcelona appear intent on getting rid of his services to help balance their books before June 30.

While the former Ajax prodigy may continue to remain coy on the transfer, things seem to be progressing behind the scenes. Signing a player of de Jong’s quality would be a coup for Manchester United, helping them replace Paul Pogba, who is leaving the club upon the expiry of his contract. As for Barcelona, getting a large sum from his sale would help the club deal with their financial issues to a certain extent.
