Sergio Busquets has claimed that he would be willing to help the club in any way possible amid speculations of another wage cut.
Speaking to the media while on international duty with Spain (h/t SPORT), Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets has responded to the speculations of the club being ready to enforce another pay cut this summer.
Barcelona find themselves in a terrible position financially and are in no position to sign or register new players due to their current situation. The Catalans have a negative salary margin of around -€144 million at the moment and need to inject funds into the club before June 30 to turn things around.
At the same time, the club will also need to offload some of their players, while the possibility of a few stars on high wages, like captains Sergio Busquets, Gerard Pique and Jordi Alba, undergoing more pay cuts is also being discussed. The Barcelona veterans were the first ones to agree to a wage reduction last summer when Barça were in a similar position.
And, with the possibility of having to forego more of their salaries arising, Busquets has now responded to the speculations, claiming that he would be happy to help the club. However, the Barcelona captain also seemed to aim a dig at the management, stating that he would rather have the club speak to him directly than learn about it through media outlets.

“I’m here focused on the national team, I’ve heard a lot of things and neither one thing has happened. I’m calm and I’d like them to tell me directly. I’m always willing to help and give my best both here, in the national team, like in my club,” Busquets said.
Further reaffirming that the club had not spoken to him or any of the other captains, the veteran midfielder added: “They haven’t proposed anything to us – the Barça captains. Nothing bothers me, but I do think it’s not the best decision to do it through the press. I’m always willing to help, no only in my club, also in the national team and not only financially. I have always shown my face and I am not a problem.”
Barcelona president Joan Laporta is pushing for the sale of stakes in Barça Licensing & Merchandise, while the Blaugrana are also working to find investors for the TV rights to help ease the financial situation. However, despite that, the possibility of a pay cut remains, which might not go down well with players when the Catalans have recently agreed on a €9 million per year contract with top target Robert Lewandowski.
