Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has aimed a sly dig at Kylian Mbappe following the French superstar’s decision to sign a new deal at PSG.
During an interview with Radio Marca (h/t Mirror), Real Madrid midfield mainstay Luka Modric has taken a shot at Kylian Mbappe for his decision to snub Los Blancos and extend his contract with Paris Saint-Germain.
Mbappe had entered the final year of his contract last summer, and for the longest time, it looked like the 23-year-old would be headed to Real Madrid on a free transfer at the end of the 2021/22 campaign. Indeed, the Merengues were confident of getting their man on a Bosman deal despite PSG’s desperate attempts to keep hold of their superstar.
However, in a shocking U-turn, Mbappe decided to snub Real Madrid at the last moment and sign a new three-year contract with the Ligue 1 champions, despite having a verbal agreement in place with the Spanish capital club.
As per Marca, the 23-year-old superstar is set to earn a whopping €50 million per year as part of his new contract, which is in addition to the massive €180 million signing-on bonus he received. On top of that, Mbappe now has 100% control over his image right as well. The ridiculous terms offered by Les Parisiens seemingly swayed the Frenchman’s decision.

And Modric, whose current contract with Real Madrid expires next month, has aimed a dig at the forward, claiming that he will sign a new deal with the La Liga champions soon and not perform a late U-turn on his decision like Mbappe.
“The club and I are talking, but we have a good relationship. I won’t do what Mbappe did, that’s for sure. But maybe the club will give that to me! No, I’m kidding. We have a lot of trust between us, we get along very well and what has to happen is going to happen,” Modric said when quizzed about his contract situation.
Real Madrid have been in discussions over a new deal for Modric for some time now, and an extension is believed to be imminent. However, the midfielder has his focus on the UEFA Champions League final against Liverpool, after which he plans to finalise the contract. “But now it’s the (Champions League) final and that’s the most important thing. I don’t want to think about anything else,” he added.
