Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has reportedly agreed to a three-year deal with Serie A giants Juventus.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is closing in on returning to Juventus and has agreed to sign a three-year deal with the Serie A giants. The Frenchman’s contract with the Red Devils expires this summer and he will join the Bianconeri in a Bosman move.
With Pogba’s Manchester United deal nearing expiration, he has been linked with a host of clubs with Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus reportedly leading the race for his signature. However, as per the latest reports from the Italian publication, it seems the Serie A giants have now taken the outright lead.
The report claims that the 29-year-old will join the Serie A giants on a three-year deal and earn €7.5 million a year plus bonuses, rising to €10 million. Pogba will return to Turin from Manchester United a completely different entity than he did ten years ago.
The Frenchman had first joined Juventus in 2012 on a free deal from Manchester United as a 19-year-old. Pogba spent four years in Italy, wowing fans and pundits with his performances before completing a world-record return to Manchester United.
In his first four-year spell with the Bianconeri, Pogba played 178 matches, scoring 34 times and assisting 40 goals from the centre of the park. His all-round game convinced Manchester United to re-sign the midfielder.
However, Pogba;s second stint at Old Trafford has been plagued by inconsistency. The Frenchman has shown flashes of brilliance but has never grown into the world-beater that he was expected to before his move. The change in managers at Manchester United has not helped his case either as he has been forced to play in different systems without a clear role.
Pogba was linked with an exit last season as well, but he stayed put and is now set to run down his contract with Manchester United. The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner started the season with a bang, assisting four goals in the opening Premier League game of the term.
However, a hamstring injury kept him out of action for three months, and Pogba has not been able to rediscover his form upon returning to the team. In all, Pogba made 233 appearances for Manchester United, scoring 39 and assisting 51 goals, and it looks like a return to Serie A by signing a three-year deal with Juventus is on the cards.
