West Ham United are in discussions with Elche for winger Tete Morente as David Moyes eyes quality additions to his attack in the summer.
According to Sunday Mirror (h/t HITC), West Ham United have initiated talks to sign Tete Morente from Elche in the summer. David Moyes wants to bring the winger and add to his attacking options in the next window, with the left-sided attacker a financially viable option to consider.
West ham United have had another impressive season under David Moyes. Despite their early charge for a Champions League place, the Hammers may have to be content with either Europa League or Conference League football next term. Despite their thin squad, the east London giants have competed well across all competitions.
They are, in fact, in the Europa League semi-finals, and Moyes will be eyeing a win against Eintracht Frankfurt despite a first-leg deficit. Triumphing in the Europa League could allow them an automatic entry into next season’s Champions League.
In whichever competition they play next season, Moyes wants to add quality players to his squad in the summer. The manager will focus on bringing defenders, a midfielder and a new striker to complement Michail Antonio. They are currently linked with free agent Andrea Belotti from Torino, although recent reports insist West Ham United are also looking for a wide attacker.
There are links to several players, including Club Brugge star Noa Lang, who could prove to be an expensive acquisition. Moyes would like someone with the potential to develop further and be financially viable in the current market. For instance, West Ham United are linked with Keane Lewis-Potter, the 21-year-old winger from Hull City.
The report suggests that Elche’s Tete Morente is also on their radar, and West Ham have begun talks with the La Liga side over a potential £7 million move for the winger.
Morente has had a modest season in La Liga, scoring thrice and managing as many assists during this season. He will fit into Moyes’ plan as a high-quality squad option, which they severely lack. The winger does not have the stature to replace Pablo Fornals or Said Benrahma in the team, but he could develop under the manager.
It remains to be seen, how accurate the current report is, although a move could materialise considering the financial feasibility of this deal. The reported £7 million price tag seems reasonable for a 25-year-old, who could become a good addition for a side vying to play European football next season.
