Massimiliano Allegri has claimed that he has no regrets over turning down a chance to manage Real Madrid in favour of returning to Juventus.
Speaking to the media ahead of Juventus’s Serie A game against Bologna, manager Massimiliano Allegri has opened up on rejecting an approach from Real Madrid to return to the Allianz Stadium last year.
The 54-year-old had been on a break for two years after leaving Juventus at the end of the 2018/19 campaign. During that time, Allegri was linked with several big jobs, with Real Madrid coming calling for him last year. However, the Italian tactician decided to return to Juventus again instead of moving to Spain.
Things have not gone all too well for Allegri in his second coming at Juve as they are sitting fourth in the table, with the Serie A title well out of their reach as things stand. However, the former AC Milan manager has insisted that he has no regrets over rejecting Real Madrid’s advances to return to Turin.
As quoted by Football Italia, he said, “Not at all. I am happy to be back here. My 10-year-old son lives here in Turin and this is another reason he decided to return. I wanted to work again with Juventus and make four good years, building something meaningful. I have no regrets. I am lucky and I am working at a good level. I’ve taken many satisfactions and I hope more will come together with the club.”
While Allegri’s Juventus are battling for a top-four finish, Real Madrid, who appointed his compatriot Carlo Ancelotti as the manager, are cruising towards the La Liga title. Indeed, Los Blancos have opened up a 12-point lead at the top of the table in the Spanish top-flight.
In addition to that, Real Madrid have also made it through to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League after overcoming Chelsea in a thrilling two-legged quarter-final over the past couple of weeks.
Allegri’s first stint at Juventus was a hugely memorable one. Having taken over in 2014, the 54-year-old was at the helm of affairs for five years and won 11 trophies in that period, including five Serie A titles. He also took the Bianconeri to two UEFA Champions League finals, but they were thwarted on both occasions, once each by Barcelona and Real Madrid.
After a rocky start to his second stint at the Allianz Stadium, the Italian will be hoping to end the season on a strong note and go on to achieve success in the coming campaigns.
