Manchester United interested in Tammy Abraham

Manchester United are reportedly thinking of signing former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham from AS Roma in the summer.

According to a report by Il Messaggero (h/t Siamo La Roma), Manchester United are monitoring Tammy Abraham’s situation at AS Roma and are plotting a possible summer move for him. The Red Devils wish to sign a forward this coming summer and the former Chelsea striker has now found a spot on their shortlist.

A Chelsea youth product, the 24-year-old spent over a decade and a half with the Blues. He spent three seasons on loan at Bristol City, Swansea City and Aston Villa as well. Abraham’s time in the Championship was highly fruitful, scoring 23 goals for Bristol in the 16/17 league season and 25 goals for Villa in the 18/19 season.

Upon his return to Chelsea ahead of the 2019/20 season, Abraham was made the club’s first-choice striker and he repaid the faith shown in him, netting 15 Premier League goals. The arrival of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz last term, however, cut down on his game time and he scored just six league goals, ultimately moving to Roma in the 2021 summer window.

The €40 million move to Italy has paid dividends for Abraham, who has so far scored 23 goals in 40 appearances across competitions. His current form has alerted clubs across Europe, and Manchester United are one of the teams interested in securing the former Chelsea striker’s services. The Red Devils are preparing for a mass exodus of forwards after the ongoing season.

While Edinson Cavani is all set to move on in the summer, there have been rumours that Cristiano Ronaldo could decide to leave if the Manchester United fail to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

Anthony Martial, currently on loan at Sevilla, could depart permanently too, while Marcus Rashford has struggled for form recently and Mason Greenwood is suspended. Abraham has previous Premier League experience under his belt with Chelsea.

In 89 appearances in the league, he has scored 26 goals, but there is a big question mark over whether he would be able to solve Manchester United’s striking woes. However, as per the aforementioned report, AS Roma are not interested in listening to any offer for the England international, meaning Manchester United will have to look for alternatives.
