Arsenal and Everton are reportedly keen on signing Luka Jovic from Real Madrid in the summer, although there could be other European clubs in the race too.
According to Spanish outlet MARCA, Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic is a big target for Premier League giants Everton and Arsenal during the summer window. Both clubs are keen on signing the Serbian forward, who continues to endure a torrid time at Real Madrid.
Luka Jovic’s fantastic form for Eintracht Frankfurt persuaded Real Madrid to part with nearly £57 million in the summer of 2019. However, things have not gone to plan for the Serbian striker, who has managed just three goals in 49 appearances for the La Liga side to date.
Real Madrid are reportedly keen on cutting their losses and selling the striker in the next window, although a long-term contract at the Santiago Bernabeau complicates a sale. The Merengues could look to send him out on loan and include a buy option, which the report suggests could be around the €20 million mark.
On the plus side, Real Madrid may have no problems finding suitors for Jovic, as a host of European and English clubs are ready to sign the forward.
There is interest from Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla, but the lure of playing in the Premier League could scupper a move to those clubs. Everton and Arsenal are reportedly interested in the Real Madrid striker, with each club eyeing reinforcements for their attacking unit.
Arsenal will be without a striker in the summer, although there is still hope of Alexandre Lacazette signing a new deal. Irrespective of the Frenchman’s future, Mikel Arteta is expected to sign a top-quality striker to strengthen Arsenal’s attack. To that end, the Gunners are targeting names like Darwin Nunez, Victor Oshimhen and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Everton striker Calvert-Lewin is tipped to join the Gunners in the close season, and the forward could become the missing link in Arteta’s team. If the English international leaves, the Toffees will need to replace him, which explains the links with Jovic.
Everton were keen on signing Jovic during the January window, but they could not pursue a deal as they were focused on signing players in other areas. However, in the upcoming summer market, they could well be on the trail of the Real Madrid striker.
The Toffees would certainly love a loan deal with a purchase option if Real Madrid are open to that arrangement. However, if Arsenal are serious about their interest, Jovic is likely to choose Arteta’s side over Everton.
