Bruno Fernandes should return to the lineup while Harry Maguire could make way for Victor Lindelof when Manchester United face Atletico Madrid.
Manchester United will be gunning to make it two wins in a row and qualify for the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals when they lock horns with Atletico Madrid at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
Manager Ralf Rangnick has been handed an injury boost ahead of the game as Scott McTominay is back in contention after recovering from his calf issue. Bruno Fernandes is also available after testing negative for coronavirus, while Luke Shaw has also returned to training, although he is still a doubt for the clash.
“As it is right now, we have all the players available for the game tomorrow. There is a small question mark behind Luke Shaw. He has been training yesterday and today but we have to wait to see if he is fully fit to be available for the game. All the other players are back in training and ready for tomorrow,” Rangnick said in his press conference.
With Shaw a doubt, Alex Telles should start at left-back against Atletico. Diogo Dalot should hold on to his place at right-back ahead of Aaron Wan-Bissaka. However, there should be a major change in the centre-back positions, with Harry Maguire likely to be benched after another stuttering display against Tottenham. Instead, Victor Lindelof should partner with Raphael Varane. David de Gea will man the goal.
Scott McTominay’s availability means that the Scotsman should return to the starting XI immediately, at the expense of Nemanja Matic in the No. 6 role. Fred has been impressive in the advanced position in Manchester United’s 4-3-3 setup and looked sharp against Tottenham over the weekend. So, he should keep his place in the lineup on Tuesday.
However, Paul Pogba could end up dropping out of the side to make way for the returning Bruno Fernandes in the other slot in the centre of the park.
Moving into the final third of the pitch, Cristiano Ronaldo is an undisputed starter in the centre-forward role after his stunning hat-trick against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend. He will again have support from Jadon Sancho, who should hold his place on the left side. Marcus Rashford, however, could drop out after yet another indifferent display, making way for Anthony Elanga.
