Everton striker Cenk Tosun has reportedly agreed a deal to return to former club Besiktas in the upcoming summer transfer window.
According to Turkish publication Star, forgotten Everton centre-forward Cenk Tosun is all set to secure a return to his former club Besiktas on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Tosun spent close to four years at Besiktas, having signed from Gaziantepspor in 2014. The Turkish striker enjoyed a prolific spell at the club before securing a transfer to Everton in January 2018. However, his stint in England has been a disaster. The 30-year-old has made 61 appearances for the Toffees, scoring just 11 goals and registering six assists.
After two years of struggles, Tosun left Everton to join Crystal Palace on loan in January 2020, but returned only a couple of months later after picking up an ACL injury. Having spent a long time out on the sidelines, the striker signed for Besiktas on loan during the winter window last year and scored three goals in four games before suffering another serious injury in April 2021.
Due to his injury, Tosun stayed put at Everton in the summer and returned to action in December last year. However, he has made just three appearances all season and looks primed to leave at the end of the ongoing campaign when his contract with the Toffees runs out.
As per the report, the striker, who has 45 caps for the Turkish national team, will return to his homeland to sign for former employers Besiktas on a Bosman deal.
It is claimed that Tosun already has reached an agreement over a contract with the Turkish giants. He is set to sign a three-year contract with the club and will stand to pocket €1.6 million per year in wages. While it would be a dip in his earnings, the 30-year-old would be returning to familiar surroundings, where he can put his injury nightmare behind him and look to get his career back on track.
As for Everton, they are on the lookout for reinforcements in attack. Ben Brereton Diaz has emerged as a target for Frank Lampard’s side, although they will have to battle Crystal Palace and West Ham United in pursuit of the striker.
