Liverpool have reportedly registered interest in Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella, who is rated highly by Jurgen Klopp.

According to Italian journalist Lorenzo Amuso, as reported by Calciomercato.it, Liverpool are among the clubs interested in Nicolo Barella. The Inter Milan midfielder received praise from Jurgen Klopp during the midweek encounter in the UEFA Champions League, and it won’t be surprising to see Liverpool enquiring about the possibility of signing him in the summer.

A product of the Cagliari youth academy, Barella has been a consistent performer for Inter since joining the club in 2019. In just two and a half years, the Italian has become one of the best midfielders in Serie A, racking up 122 competitive appearances for Inter.

A number eight by trade, Barella’s ability to carry the ball and evade the opposition press has made him a sought-after figure in European football. He is quite useful in the final third as well, with the player notably being involved in a total of 40 goals during his time at Inter. His performances were even crucial in helping the Nerazzurri lift the Scudetto last season.

Barella’s rapid rise to prominence saw him become a regular for the Italian national team as well, with the 25-year-old winning 35 caps for his country. He was involved in the team that won the UEFA Euro 2020 under Roberto Mancini.

In recent years, Barella has been no stranger to interest from the Premier League. The midfielder was strongly linked with a move to England last summer, and it has been no different this season, with Liverpool emerging as the latest potential destination for the Italian international next season.

With Jordan Henderson and Thiago heading into the final phases of their respective careers, it is apparent that Jurgen Klopp is eyeing midfield reinforcements in the summer transfer window. The Reds have already been linked with multiple midfield talents, including Renato Sanches.

However, Barella has a higher pedigree at the highest level of football and could instantly make an impact at Anfield. His technical and creative prowess should offer some much-needed variety to Klopp’s midfield uni as well. The 25-year-old Italian, though, could cost a fortune, knowing Inter Milan will try everything they can to keep hold of their star players this summer.
