West Ham United are among a host of Premier League clubs interested in signing Tottenham ace Cameron Carter-Vickers, who is on loan at Celtic.
According to an exclusive report from TEAMtalk, West ham United have entered the race for the signing of Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers, who is impressing on loan at Celtic.
The 24-year-old came through the youth ranks at Tottenham and made his senior debut for the Lilywhites in 2016, at the age of 18. However, he has since featured just four more times for the first team. Instead, Carter-Vickers has been constantly farmed out on loan, with the American defender having had stints at Sheffield United, Ipswich Town, Swansea City, Stoke City, Luton Town and Bournemouth.
Carter-Vickers left Tottenham for Celtic on another loan stint last summer and has thrived in Scotland. The USMNT international has featured 32 times in all competitions for the Hoops and has played a key role in their rise to the top of the Premiership standings.
Celtic have an option to make Carter-Vickers’ transfer permanent at the end of the season for a fee that would rise over £10 million, including add-ons. While they are keen on triggering that clause, the Scottish champions are set to face serious competition from clubs in England, with West Ham among the teams interested.
West Ham need defensive reinforcements heading into next season. Angelo Ogbonna will soon turn 34 and sees his contract expire at the end of the season. Even if he is offered an extension, having suffered a serious injury this term, he might have some problems hitting his peak form right from the off.
Craig Dawson has done well, as has Kurt Zouma, while Issa Diop is also available at David Moyes’ disposal. But adding another younger alternative to the ranks if Ogbonna’s deal is not renewed would make a lot of sense for the east London outfit, especially if they end up qualifying for European football once again.
To that end, Carter-Vickers could be seen as a potential option. However, they will have to face competition from four other Premier League clubs in Leicester City, Burnley, Watford and Wolves, apart from his current club, Celtic. In addition, there are Championship clubs like Middlesbrough, West Brom and Bournemouth, who also want to sign the 24-year-old.
Carter-Vickers might not have been able to make it at Tottenham, but he has proven himself at the Championship level in the past and is excelling with Celtic. With his contract expiring in 2023, he would be available for a bargain price and could be a handy asset for West Ham or any other team interested. However, Celtic having the buy option gives them an advantage.
