Newcastle United have reportedly been dealt with a massive blow in their pursuit of in-demand Crystal Palace attacker Eberechi Eze.
A recent report from Evening Standard has offered an update on the future of Eberechi Eze. It appears Newcastle United are among the clubs keen on securing the services of the Crystal Palace playmaker, with the Magpies reportedly mulling over a £45 million swoop in the summer transfer window. However, the report goes on to suggest that Eze is happy with life at Palace and doeptend to move on anytime soon.
Formerly of QPR, Eze joined Palace in the summer of 2020 for a fee of around €17 million. It was a massive coup for the Eagles, with the playmaker enjoying an excellent debut season in the Premier League, scoring four goals while racking up six assists in 34 league matches.
Unfortunately, the youngster’s rapid progress at Selhurst Park was marred by an Achilles problem that has restricted him to just one start in the Premier League this term. His absence has had a grave impact on Crystal Palace, with the club dawdling in the wrong half of the league standings at the moment.
Eze’s struggles with injuries, though, have not deterred Newcastle United. It is believed that the Magpies are keeping close tabs on the Crystal Palace attacker. They consider him potentially a vital asset to Eddie Howe’s rebuilding process, as the former Bournemouth manager looks to utilise the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF) to make NUFC one of the strongest teams in the Premier League.
Given Eze’s age profile and his performances at the highest level of football, the Englishman might be a smart long-term investment for the cash-rich outfit. But it appears the 23-year-old is currently happy with life at Crystal Palace and does not intend to move away from Selhurst Park.
Despite struggling with injuries, Eze remains convinced he could become a vital part of the club’s future under the leadership of Patrick Vieira. As such, Newcastle United may have to set their sights on other alternatives in the summer in their bid to shore up the creative department next season.
The Magpies have no shortage of options, though, as they have been linked with a move for Belgian whizkid Jeremy Doku among many others. As for Eze, he will be keen on getting his season back on track when Crystal Palace travel to Molineux to face Watford next week. His performance could go a long way in helping the Eagles secure a crucial win in their bid to return to the top half of the league table.
