Tanguy Ndombele has left Tottenham and re-signed with Lyon on a six-month loan deal with a buy option of €65 million activating at the end of the season.
Lyon have confirmed the capture of Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele on a six-month loan deal. The offer also includes a massive €65 million buy option at the end of the term, although the clause is not mandatory for the French club to exercise.
The midfielder, who arrived on a club-record deal back in 2019, has been out of sorts for Spurs and never really settled down at the north London club. He has had his good days and bad, but the Frenchman never looked like the type of player to suit the club.
Having begun his Spurs career under Mauricio Pochettino, Ndombele failed to cement a starting place in the team, with the situation prevailing under Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and now Antonio Conte. In Tottenham’s recent game against Morecambe in the FA Cup, the fans booed him off the pitch, which may have been the final straw.
Ndombele had since been frozen out and was training away from the first team. All things pointed towards a move out of the club, with a return to France mooted for the Tottenham outcast. There were strong links with PSG in the last few days, but their rivals Lyon have captured the midfielder.

Last week, Lyon were also linked with Giovani Lo Celso as they sought a midfielder to replace Bruno Guimaraes, who left the club to join Newcastle United. They needed a new midfielder before the transfer deadline and have now ended up re-signing Ndombele.
The Tottenham outcast joins Lyon on a six-month loan deal, with the French club having an option to buy him at the end of the season. The clause is set at €65 million, which is not mandatory for the French club to exercise. so if things go south for Ndombele in Ligue 1, he could return to north London in the summer.
However, as things stand, the midfielder will have a new lease on life and hope to play regularly with Lyon, two and a half years after he left the club to sign for Tottenham.
