Transfer News: Tottenham have offer for Franck Kessie rejected

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly seen an offer to sign Franck Kessie on the transfer deadline day get turned down by AC Milan.

According to Tutto Mercato Web’s Marco Conterio, Tottenham Hotspur have been rebuffed in their attempts to sign Franck Kessie from AC Milan on the January transfer deadline day.

Kessie is in the final six months of his contract with Milan and looks set to depart in the summer, having failed to agree a new deal with the Rossoneri. Several top clubs across Europe, including Barcelona and Real Madrid, are vying to sign him when he becomes a free agent at the end of the season.

Tottenham, too, have maintained a long-standing interest in the Ivory Coast international. While they had plans to make a move for Kessie in the summer, they have accelerated the timeline and launched a swoop to land him on the ongoing transfer deadline day.

Spurs are set to lose two midfielders before the January transfer window closes as Tanguy Ndombele is set to return to Olympique Lyon on loan with an option to make the switch permanent in the summer. In addition, Giovani Lo Celso is poised to join La Liga giants Villarreal on a temporary stint for the rest of the campaign.

It will create two vacancies in the midfield department at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, even though both Ndombele and Lo Celso were not exactly regulars in the side. One of the slots is set to be filled by Rodrigo Bentancur, who is expected to finalise a move from Juventus imminently.

Despite the Uruguayan international’s impending arrival, Tottenham are seemingly keen on bringing in another midfielder and launched an attempt to sign Kessie. As per Marco Conterio, the Lilywhites are set to be paid €3 million as a loan fee for Ndombele, which they directly offered to AC Milan to secure the signing of the former Atalanta midfielder.

However, the Serie A giants swiftly rejected the north London giants’ bid, despite the risk of losing him for free in the summer when his contract eventually runs out. It remains to be seen if Tottenham make an improved offer before the window slams shut or decide to wait until the end of the campaign to sign him up.
