La Liga outfit Valencia are eyeing a late January swoop for Tottenham Hotspur’s out of favour midfielder Dele Alli.
The Athletic’s London-based journalist David Ornstein has offered an interesting update on Dele Alli’s future at Tottenham. Even on deadline day, the playmaker is attracting interest from a host of clubs across Europe, with Valencia being no exception.
It appears the Spanish outfit are aiming to snap up the Tottenham star on a short-term loan deal as Jose Bordalas looks to improve his options in the creative department. His side have already been linked with another Spurs attacker in the form of Bryan Gil, with negotiations still going on regarding a loan deal.
Valencia’s interest in Alli, to that end, is slightly surprising, although one may suggest that Tottenham aren’t keen on offloading Gil. The youngster hasn’t been able to make an impact since joining the Premier League last summer. But given his age and potential, he certainly has a future at the club.
As for Alli, the Englishman has fallen out of favour under Antonio Conte. He has struggled with form and is currently trailing Son Heung-Min, Lucas Moura and even Steven Bergwijn in the pecking order. Only two of his eight starts in the Premier League this term have come under Conte so far.
The Englishman’s role in the first team could dwindle further as Tottenham reportedly close in on the capture of Dejan Kulusevski. The young Swede is expected to arrive at Spurs on deadline day, along with his Juventus teammate Rodrigo Bentancur.
Their potential acquisition should open the door for Tottenham to offload some of the fringe players in the team. Tanguy Ndombele, for one, is reportedly in talks with Olympique Lyon regarding a potential return to his former club, whereas Gil remains a loan target for multiple clubs, especially from Spain.
As for Dele Alli, the English international will certainly relish the opportunity to seal a move elsewhere in order to gain regular game-time. Valencia, to that end, could prove to be a logical destination, knowing Bordalas’ desperation for a creative phenom that can complement the works of Carlos Soler in the final third.
In addition to his skills on the pitch, Alli offers vast experience at the highest level of football. It could be useful for a Valencia team hoping to compete for the European places during the second half of the campaign.
