Brentford have reached an agreement with OGC Nice for the deadline day signing of former Manchester United winger Deji Sotona.
According to Mike McGrath of The Telegraph, Brentford are closing in on their second deadline day signing after agreeing a deal with French club OGC Nice for Deji Sotona.
The 19-year-old came through the youth ranks at Manchester United and made 20 appearances for the club’s Under-18 setup while featuring once for the Under-23s. He was the quickest player on United’s books at one point, after clocking a top speed of 22.9mph. However, Sotona left the Red Devils for Nice on a free transfer in the summer of 2020.
While he may have moved to France, Sotona continued to attract interest from English clubs. Tottenham have been monitoring the teenage winger while Chelsea were interested in signing him in last year. And it seems like the winger will be heading to London, although he is set to sign for Brentford.
McGrath’s update claims that Brentford have reached a total agreement with Nice over a move. As per the deal agreed, Sotona will sign for the Bees on loan for the rest of the season, with an option to make the signing permanent for a set fee in the summer transfer window.

It is also claimed that Sotona is set to undergo his medical with Thomas Frank’s side in the coming hours before completing the move. Once signed, the former Manchester United winger will become the second deadline day signing for Brentford.
The Bees have already confirmed the capture of former Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan playmaker Christian Eriksen on a free transfer. The Dane signed for the Premier League club after being released by the Nerazzurri, having not played this season due to his heart condition.
Brentford could look to close more deals in the remaining hours of the transfer window as they look to strengthen their squad and ensure that they do not get dragged into the relegation battle. The Bees are currently 14th in the league table, eight points clear of Newcastle United in the 18th position in the standings.
