Barcelona have reportedly been offered a chance to sign either Mauro Icardi or Juan Bernat by PSG as part of a deal for contract rebel Ousmane Dembele.
According to SPORT, Paris Saint-Germain are upping their efforts to sign Barcelona outcast Ousmane Dembele on the transfer deadline day. The French giants have offered the Catalans a pick of two players to choose from as part of a deal to land the winger before the window slams shut.
Dembele’s time at Barcelona is set to end after over four years at the club. The French international is in the final six months of his contract at Camp Nou and has refused the Blaugrana’s contract offer, effectively sealing his fate. With the La Liga giants desperate to sign a new striker, they need to offload the ex-Borussia Dortmund star to create space on the wage bill.
PSG have shown a strong interest in signing Dembele, which would make sense considering that Kylian Mbappe’s contract runs out at the end of the season. Even Angel Di Maria will see his deal expire in the summer, although the Parisians do have the option of extending his stay for another twelve months.
Nevertheless, attacking reinforcements are needed at Parc des Princes, leading to the club push for Dembele. It has been claimed that PSG have reached a verbal agreement with the Frenchman but are yet to agree on a transfer fee with Barcelona. The La Liga bigwigs are demanding a sum of €20 million for the winger. But they have now been offered a chance to sign either Icardi or Bernat in exchange.
Icardi has struggled for game-time at PSG under Mauricio Pochettino and has been deemed surplus to requirements. The Argentine has been linked with Barcelona in the recent past. With Xavi Hernandez’s side in the market for a new No. 9, he could be seen as a viable addition to the squad at Camp Nou.
Another player put on the table by PSG is Juan Bernat. The Spaniard is not a regular starter at Parc des Princes and has featured just seven times this season, although he did miss a chunk of games due to injuries. The 28-year-old would be a fine alternative for Jordi Alba at Barcelona, with the veteran left-back struggling for form in recent games.
With not much time left in the transfer window, Barcelona and PSG will need to hash out a deal at the earliest possible. Otherwise, we could see Dembele stay put at Camp Nou for the rest of the season before leaving the club on a free transfer in the summer.
