Yorkshire giants Leeds United have reportedly submitted an offer to land 18-year-old Aberdeen prodigy Calvin Ramsay.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Premier League side Leeds United have made their move to land talented 18-year-old Aberdeen youngster Calvin Ramsay in the January transfer window.
The teenage prodigy is one of the brightest young talents in the Scottish Premiership at the moment. He came through the ranks at Aberdeen, eventually making his first-team bow in the 2020/21 season. Ramsay has made 28 appearances for the Dons and has provided an impressive eight assists in that time. The only teenagers to outdo him this season are Florian Wirtz, Adam Hlozek and Jude Bellingham – a sign of Ramsay’s prodigious talent.
A right-back by trade, the 18-year-old is a dual purpose player who can do a fine job at either end of the pitch. He is also capable of playing in midfield if needed and has the potential to be an excellent addition to the Premier League in the years to come.
While Leeds remain keen, their job will not be easy as Serie A club Bologna are also interested in the 18-year-old. Both clubs have made an offer to secure Ramsay’s services as the transfer tussle gathers pace in the final days of the winter transfer window.
The west Yorkshire outfit has submitted a bid worth €3.5 million for Ramsay and offered Aberdeen a share of any future sale. Leeds are also ready to let the teenager stay on at the Pittodrie on loan until the end of the current season.
Bologna, meanwhile, have offered €1 million as a loan fee with an obligation to make the deal permanent for €4 million. They have also put forward a lower percentage of any future sale compared to Leeds United and are keen to land the player right now. In a major blow for the Premier League outfit, the player appears ready to move to Bologna.
The Rossoblu already have one Scottish full-back in their ranks in Aaron Hickey. The 20-year-old has thrived at the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium and potentially could influence Ramsay’s decision to move to north Italy.
Scotland have produced some excellent full-backs in recent times. Andrew Robertson is amongst the world’s best at Liverpool, while Kieran Tierney is an important player at Arsenal. With Hickey also building his reputation, it remains to be seen if Ramsay will join that list in the years to come.
Leeds have Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas as their right-back options. While the duo does a fine job, both are 30 and will need to be phased out sooner or later. In Ramsay, Bielsa can potentially land a player who can be a long-term solution in the position.
As things stand, Bologna appear to hold the aces in the race to land Ramsay. With time running out this January, Aberdeen will need to make a decision in the next two days.
