Premier League giants Manchester United demand at least €15 million from Serie A champions Inter Milan for Alex Telles.
According to L’Interista, Serie A champions Inter Milan can sign Manchester United left-back Alex Telles in the January transfer window if they can fork out €15 million for the player’s services.
The Brazilian joined Manchester United in the summer of 2020 but has had to take a secondary role behind Luke Shaw in the Red Devils’ playing XI. Last season, the English international was in sensational form and kept Telles out of the first-team scene. Little changed this season despite Shaw’s drop off in performances.
The arrival of Ralf Rangnick has breathed new life into Telles’s time at the Theatre of Dreams. Given Shaw’s loss of form, it makes sense that the German manager keeps faith in the Brazilian full-back.
Surprisingly, however, Man United appear open to parting ways with the player if their asking price is met. The Red Devils will refuse to entertain any loan offers for the player and are seeking a cash-only deal. With time running out before the January transfer window shuts, it remains to be seen if Inter will make their move.
Under Simone Inzaghi, the Serie A champions have often deployed a 3-5-2 system that has worked wonders on the field. A major aspect of the Italian side’s system is the role the wingbacks play at either end of the pitch. This is especially true on the left flank, where Ivan Perisic rules the roost.
The Croatian international isn’t just solid in defence, but also an overwhelming attack force. However, he is already 32 and will be out of contract at the San Siro next summer. Inter will need to bring in a replacement for the Croatian sooner or later, and it remains to be seen if Telles will be their man.
The Manchester United star is an all-action player who can do a job at either end of the pitch. He is also an accomplished set-piece taker, adding another weapon to the Inter arsenal.
The Brazilian is already familiar with Inter and has donned the San Siro side’s jersey in the past. Telles spent the 2015-16 season on loan at Inter and made 22 appearances for the club, making one assist. Whether a reunion is on the cards remains to be seen.
Exactly why Man United are keen to sell Telles is unknown. Doing so will leave them with just Shaw as their senior left-back. The 26-year-old has also shown himself to be susceptible defensively this season. Coach Ralf Rangnick has shown the desire to sign Luca Netz, but the German is unlikely to leave the Bundesliga in January. Either way, it promises to be an interesting saga and it remains to be seen which way the cookie will crumble.
