Sevilla could demand a fee as high a €60 million for Diego Carlos as they consider Newcastle United’s interest in the Brazilian defender.

Newcastle United are growing increasingly anxious in the search for a new centre-back. The Premier League club are eager to bring in a new central defender in this window, as Eddie Howe wants his team to be geared up ahead of a difficult relegation battle.
So far, they have seen many of their approaches for the right target turned down by rival clubs, as Newcastle have indicated they might be willing to pay the right price for the correct player. However, there are chances clubs could look to take advantage of their finances and quote higher prices.
A similar scenario has transpired in their pursuit of top target Sven Botman. French club Lille have so far rejected Newcastle’s approaches for the Dutch defender, as they seek a high transfer fee, something the Magpies are unwilling to pay. With the Premier League club now chasing other targets, they might go back to Sevilla with another reasonable offer for Diego Carlos. The Andalusian club has already rejected an offer worth €30 million from Newcastle United recently and were reportedly willing to entertain a figure close to €45 million.
However, the latest report suggests Sevilla want close to €60 million from the Magpies if they are serious about the Brazilian defender. That is nearly double the amount Newcastle offered initially and might even put off the cash-rich Premier League side’s pursuit of the centre-back.
The need for a central defender is important at the club, and it won’t be surprising if Newcastle eventually end up paying €60 million for Carlos. It remains to be seen if Sevilla accepts anything less than the requested here, which won’t be surprising given their somewhat dodgy financial situation.
However, €60 million might be too much for a defender who has had problems with consistency. As much as the Brazilian has been important to Sevilla, for that price or even a fee somewhat lower, the Spanish club could be well off accepting a reasonable offer from the Magpies and generate some much-needed transfer revenue.
