Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has reportedly requested the board to sign Eintracht Frankfurt star Filip Kostic, who could cost €25-30 million.
According to a report from Fichajes, Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has his sights set on a summer move for Eintracht Frankfurt wide midfielder Filip Kostic.
The 29-year-old Serbian international has been with the German outfit since 2018, when he initially arrived on loan from Hamburger SV before his transfer was made permanent the next year. Kostic has been a permanent fixture in the side for Eintracht ever since, producing a return of 29 goals and 57 assists from 148 appearances.
Able to play anywhere along the left flank, Kostic has largely been used as a wing-back this season by the Eagles, a position in which he has thrived, thanks to his attacking intent. The 29-year-old has a tally of three goals and nine assists from 21 matches in all competitions, giving an indication of the kind of outlet he provides on the wing.
His quality has caught the attention of Tottenham boss Antonio Conte, who is keen on adding Kostic to his ranks in the summer. As things stand, the Lilywhites have Sergio Reguilon, Ben Davies and Ryan Sessegnon as their options for the left wing-back slot.
However, Conte has opted to use Davies as a left-sided centre-back since arriving, while Reguilon has been unable to deliver solid performances consistently. Ryan Sessegnon’s development has also been somewhat stalled, which is why Conte could be looking to strengthen in the position with the signing of Kostic, after having tried to recruit him at Inter Milan previously.
Adding the Serbian international to their squad will not be straightforward for the north London giants. Kostic’s current contract with Eintracht Frankfurt runs till the summer of 2023. With his current market value at €20 million, the report claims that the Bundesliga outfit will demand at least €25-30 million for his signing at the end of the season, even though he will be entering the final year of his deal.
Whether the Tottenham board are willing to heed their manager’s request and make a push to sign Kostic in the summer transfer window remains to be seen. In case efforts are made to land the 29-year-old, it could lead to the Lilywhites offloading either Reguilon or Sessegnon.
