West Ham United have identified Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo as a potential transfer target for the upcoming January transfer window.
According to an update from Ex-WHU Employee, West Ham United are plotting a January raid on London rivals Fulham for the signing of 24-year-old centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo.
The English defender started at the academy of Manchester City and made his way through the youth ranks to break into the first team in 2016, aged just 18. However, he could muster up just eight senior appearances for the Cityzens. After a couple of loan spells away at West Bromwich Albion and Blackburn Rovers, Adarbioyo signed for Fulham in the summer of last year.
Since arriving at Craven Cottage, the centre-back became a permanent fixture in the side and put up several solid displays alongside Joachim Andersen in the 2020/21 campaign. However, he could not help Fulham survive the drop from the Premier League.
Adarabioyo has been again top-notch for the Cottagers in the EFL Championship this season, helping them to the second-best defensive record in the competition as they target an automatic promotion back to the top-flight. And, the 24-year-old’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with clubs from the Premier League now eyeing a January swoop for the Englishman.
Newcastle United, who are in a defensive crisis, have been linked with a move for the ex-Manchester City starlet. Now, West Ham United have also entered the picture for the signing of Adarabioyo in the upcoming transfer window.
The Hammers have been a breath of fresh air this season as they make a surprise push for a top-four finish while they also have qualified for the knockout stages of the UEFA Europa League. However, recent injuries to key defensive personnel Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma is threatening to derail their promising campaign.
As a result, West Ham boss David Moyes is keen on bolstering his options at the heart of the backline, leading to an interest in several players like Bayern Munich’s Niklas Sule and his compatriot, Matthias Ginter of Borussia Monchengladbach. In addition, the east London giants are also keeping an eye on Fulham’s Adarabioyo as a prospective target.
The 24-year-old showed that he can cut it out at this stage last season and is enjoying a promising 2021/22 campaign in the Championship. However, signing him might prove to be difficult, given that Fulham are very much in the hunt for an automatic promotion, which would make them reluctant to lose one of their key players.
