Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek has emerged as a transfer target for Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann.
According to Fichajes, Donny van de Beek’s days at Manchester United could be numbered. The midfielder is seemingly becoming an outcast in the United setup, thus leading to speculations regarding a move away from Old Trafford in the upcoming January transfer window.
Van de Beek has already attracted the interest of several top clubs across Europe so far this season. But it appears the Dutchman might be on the verge of moving to the Bundesliga, with the report suggesting Bayern Munich as a likely destination.
Formerly of the Ajax academy, van de Beek arrived at Manchester United in the summer of 2020. It was a bizarre move, given that the club already boasted the services of Bruno Fernandes. And quite unsurprisingly, the transfer has turned out to be a disastrous one for both parties, with the player struggling with lack of game-time throughout his ongoing 18-month spell in England so far.
The 24-year-old featured in only 19 Premier League matches last season. And while that was alarming enough for the player, his status in the first-team has dwindled further in the new season, with a total of just 67 minutes of action. The Dutchman’s fortunes haven’t changed under new coach Ralf Rangnick either, as the German has gifted him only six minutes of league football.
But if Rangnick doesn’t appreciate van de Beek, Julian Nagelsmann certainly does. His success at Ajax and his familiarity with playing under a sophisticated tactical system make him an appealing target for the Bayern Munich head coach.
Not to mention, the 24-year-old can be considered as a direct replacement for Corentin Tolisso, who is expected to leave Bavaria in January. The Frenchman’s current contract at Bayern expires in the summer, with Tottenham among the clubs interested in his services.
Tolisso’s departure could pave the way for van de Beek to join the Bundesliga and potential revive his career at one of the best clubs in Europe. However, the Dutchman has no shortage of alternatives, as he is also courted by the likes of Newcastle United and Real Madrid, meaning it will be interesting to see what the future holds for this Manchester United midfielder in January.
