Real Madrid are reportedly ready to revive their interest in Olympique Lyon and France midfielder Houssem Aouar, who is valued at €30 million.
According to a report from Fichajes, Real Madrid are set to reignite their interest in Olympique Lyon midfield star Houssem Aouar for the summer transfer window of next year.
Aouar has been on the books of Lyon since 2009, and having made his first-team breakthrough in 2017, he has established himself as one of the most exciting young midfielders in French football. The 23-year-old has already amassed 193 appearances for Les Gones, producing a return of 37 goals and 33 assists.
Aouar has been on the radars of several top clubs in Europe for years now, with Real Madrid also one of his staunch admirers. However, Los Blancos had cooled their interest in the one-time capped French international of late, following the departure of manager Zinedine Zidane. But as he gets set to enter the final year of his contract with Lyon, the Spanish giants are back in the hunt to sign the midfielder.
Real Madrid will need to refresh their options in the middle of the park shortly. Despite performing admirably, Luka Modric is in the final stages of his career, whereas Toni Kroos is also in his thirties and needs to be managed carefully. With Isco and Dani Ceballos on their way out and Federico Valverde unhappy with his current involvement, vacancies could be created at the Bernabeu.
While numerous names are being linked with a move to Real Madrid, the report mentioned above now claims that Aouar is also back on the agenda for Los Blancos. The 23-year-old is a player who has plenty of admirers at the Spanish capital club, with manager Carlo Ancelotti and president Florentino Perez in an agreement to launch a move for him.
The midfielder, for his part, feels ready to take the next step in his career after having spent his entire career with Lyon. The report adds that Aouar is valued at €30 million only, which is understandable considering that his contract with the Ligue 1 giants expires in the summer of 2023, meaning he will enter the final year of his deal next summer.
That sum should not be a problem for Real Madrid, although the report adds that the current La Liga leaders might include a player in the deal to bring that figure further down. It now remains to be seen if they launch a swoop for the Frenchman next summer or look at alternatives to bolster their midfield.
