A sensational return to Emirates could be on the cards for Aaron Ramsey as he prepares to depart Juventus in January.
A recent report from Marca uncovers Arsenal’s plan to raid Juventus in the upcoming January transfer window. Despite spending heavily in the summer, it appears Mikel Arteta is keen on further strengthening his troops as he attempts to push for an ambitious top-four finish during the second half of the campaign.
The report suggests Arsenal are primarily are targeting two players in the form of Arthur Melo and Dejan Kulusevski, with the club reportedly prepared to shell out €30 million for the latter. However, it seems Aaron Ramsey has emerged as a shocking third option, with the return to Emirates being a possibility.
The Welshman is one of many players that are destined to leave Juventus in January after failing to make his mark since his move from Arsenal. During his two-and-a-half-year spell in Turin, the playmaker has featured in 70 competitive matches, scoring just six goals. He has failed to even muster 100 minutes of league football this term, though largely due to an injury.
Nevertheless, Ramsey’s struggles at Juventus have left him alienated. There are reports that suggest Bianconeri may even terminate his contract, essentially making him a free agent next month.
The former Arsenal playmaker has no shortage of admirers either, with Newcastle United, West Ham and Everton all in contention to snap him up in the January transfer window. They rate the midfielder highly due to his vast experience in English football, having featured in almost 400 competitive games for the Gunners.
However, Ramsey hasn’t shown any exclusive desire to join either of those clubs. It opens the door further for a potential return to his former stomping ground, the Emirates.
Arsenal are in need of reinforcements in the creative department in January as they have lacked consistency going forward in many of their matches this season. Ramsey’s experience, in that regard, could prove to be a massive help, while his versatility should allow Mikel Arteta to utilise him as a potential alternative to the central midfielders.
That said, Ramsey is certainly not on top of Arsenal’s wishlist next month, as the Gunners are tilting towards a more defence-minded midfielder like Guido Rodriguez. They may also end up signing the Welshman’s Juventus teammate, Arthur Melo, who has endured a similar level of struggle since his move to Italy last summer.
