Kieran Trippier is reportedly in advanced talks with Manchester United and is set to sign for the club in January, leaving Diego Simeone fuming.
According to El Nacional, Manchester United and Kieran Trippier are discussing a potential move in the January window. The emerging details regarding the right-back wanting a move away and those subsequent discussions have left Diego Simeone fuming.
Atletico Madrid will certainly not stand in the way of Kieran Trippier if he wishes to join Manchester United in the January window. After winning the La Liga title together last season, Simeone considers the right-back key to his plans. The former Tottenham Hotspur man has done considerably well in the current campaign despite a slow start.
If Manchester United make a reasonable offer, possibly more than €30 million, Atletico will consider the sale. From a financial viewpoint, the Rojiblancos will make a decent profit on a player who has entered his thirties and is causing concerns with fitness issues this season.
The only major problem for Atletico would be finding a replacement quickly and not letting their title challenge be derailed. They will certainly look at the financial gains of the deal, although Simeone is reportedly furious that discussions between Manchester United and Trippier happened without his knowledge.
Manchester United made several approaches to Atletico in the summer, as they were keen to bring Trippier back to the Premier League. The Spanish champions declined any and all offers that came in, and demanded interested clubs pay up his release clause, which stood at more than €60 million.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seemingly gave up on Trippier and kept Diogo Dalot at the club, despite the Portugal star being heavily tipped to leave Old Trafford. However, recent reports had indicated that Manchester United were prepared to reignite their interest in the full-back in January and they might even succeed this time.
Trippier is reportedly in conversation with Manchester United, who are allegedly prepared to double his current salary. His experience is very much valued by the club’s board. As for Atletico, the La Liga champions might take it as an opportunity to cash in on a player who has shown fitness concerns since the start of the current campaign.
Trippier is keen on returning to England and seems to have his heart set on a move to Manchester United. It remains to be seen how much the Spanish side might demand for the 31-year-old full-back. It does seem like the Red Devils are serious about the transfer, and could probably get their man with a decent enough offer.
