Arsenal are reportedly readying a loan offer with an option to buy for out-of-favour Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic, who is valued at €25 million.
According to an update from journalist Ekrem Konur, Premier League giants, Arsenal are preparing an offer to sign Real Madrid centre-forward Luka Jovic on loan in the January transfer window. The Gunners plan to include an option to make the signing permanent in the agreement.
Jovic signed for Real Madrid in 2019 after enjoying a prolific 2018/19 campaign with German outfit Eintracht Frankfurt. But following his big-money switch to Spain, the Serbian international has struggled to produce the goods in Spain.
After managing just two goals in the first 18 months of his stint with Real Madrid, Jovic was sent back to Eintracht on loan for the second half of the last season, where he showed signs of returning to form before fading again. Back at the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the season, the 23-year-old was linked with an exit, but manager Carlo Ancelotti decided to give the striker another shot.
However, things have not worked out for Jovic this season either, as he has seen just 84 minutes of footballing action across all competitions, in which he has failed to score or assist a goal. With the January transfer window looming, question marks over his future have resurfaced again, with there being plenty of takers for him across Europe.
Now, Arsenal, too, have seemingly thrown their hat in the ring for the signing of Jovic. The Gunners have a well-stocked frontline with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Eddie Nketiah and Folarin Balogun available at manager Mikel Arteta’s disposal.
Amongst these, though, both Lacazette and Nketiah are out of contract at the end of the current season. They could be on their way out when the deals run out or potentially even in January in cut-price moves. Balogun, who signed a new contract earlier this year, has not been given many opportunities, while Aubameyang is not getting any younger.
So, it becomes imperative that Arsenal bring in a new centre-forward to fill any vacancy left and eventually grow into the premier striker at the Emirates. And Jovic has emerged as one of the options that the north London giants are considering. In fact, Ekrem Konur goes as far as claiming that the Gunners are already readying an offer to secure the Serbian hitman’s services.
As per the journalist, Arsenal will make an offer to sign him on loan in January with an option to make his transfer permanent at the end of the season. Real Madrid, for their part, are willing to let Jovic leave but would demand a sum of €25 million. So, it remains to be seen if they find the Gunners’ proposal acceptable or not, with clubs like Liverpool also interested in the 23-year-old.
