Transfer News: Liverpool step up pursuit of Adama Traore

Jurgen Klopp wants to bring Adama Traore to Anfield, probably next summer, as the Liverpool manager looks to add a refreshing look to his attacking options.

According to Catalan outlet El Nacional, Liverpool are ready to step up their efforts to sign Adama Traore from Wolves next summer. The move could be designed to bring in a new wide attacker to an already formidable-looking Reds’ attacking line.

Liverpool have been looking for a top draw attacker to give Jurgen Klopp a different option to his current set of players. Ismaila Sarr has been linked with the Merseyside giants in the last few years, but the Reds have refused to meet his ever-increasing price tag. While Liverpool want a very good player, they are also mindful of the fee attached.

Adama Traore is the player they are prepared to step up their efforts for. The Spaniard remains in an impasse with Wolves over a new deal, as it looks increasingly likely he’ll leave the club next summer. The winger has proved his importance under Bruno Lage at the club, meaning a January departure looks unlikely.

After being released from Barcelona under the ill-fated reign of Jose Maria Bartomeu, Traore has proved it was a wrong decision from the Catalan club. Since then, he has had spells in the Premier League with Aston Villa, Middlesbrough and Wolves, while also growing in his role within the Spanish national side.

At 25 years of age, Traore could be set to move to a proper big club, and Liverpool might be the ideal destination. The Spaniard is reportedly attracted by the prospect of playing at Anfield, and their attacking style of football, which might suit him.

Tottenham could rival Liverpool as the north London side could revive their interest in a player they tried hard to sign in the summer. Traore was reportedly interested in joining Spurs, but with Liverpool now in the equation, he might choose the Reds over his former boss’ side.

Traore’s deal with Wolves expires in 2023, meaning he could be available at a discounted price next summer. Liverpool will certainly look to exploit such an opportunity rather than spend over the top on a player like Sarr or someone else.

Traore is 25 and can offer a long-term option for any club he signs up at. It remains to be seen how Wolves progress with their new contract offer, which has reportedly been on the cards for some time now. Traore could refuse a new deal from an outside perspective and look to move across the Premier League, probably to Anfield.
