Liverpool have been tipped as the team to watch out in the Premier League title race this season after Mohamed Salah’s stunning start to the campaign.
Speaking to Football Insider, former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie has tipped Liverpool for Premier League title glory in the 2021/22 season thanks to the blistering form of superstar Mohamed Salah.
The 29-year-old forward has been brilliant since the onset of the new campaign, having bagged nine goals in nine games across all competitions, while setting up three more. Salah was absolutely on fire at the weekend as he helped Liverpool battle out a 2-2 draw against Manchester City at Anfield.
With six goals in six league games, Salah is also the current top goalscorer in the Premier League, along with Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy. And, former West Ham hitman, McAvennie, has claimed that the Egyptian international’s form has put the Reds among top contenders for the Premier League title this season.
“Ian Rush said something the other day. He said when he was playing for Liverpool, it was a question of how many he would score, not if he would score. That’s what Salah has at the moment. I had that at West Ham, me and Tony Cottee had that. That’s one hell of a thing to have. That confidence is incredible. It’s a great thing,” McAvennie said.

“No one is stopping him this season. He’s absolutely up there with you Haalands and your Kanes. People weren’t talking about Liverpool going for the title this year. I think Salah’s form has put them in the conversation. They are my team to watch. After what I saw from him [Salah], wow.”
Salah’s start to the season has made everyone sit up and take notice, with pundits even claiming that, on current form, he was even better than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Former Liverpool defender and club legend Jamie Carragher has also gone on to urge the club to sort out his contract situation at the earliest possible, given how important he is to the side. The 29-year-old’s current deal runs out in 2023 and talks over a new one have not been progressing as per plans.
While that will need to be taken care of, there is no denying that if Salah continues at this rate, Liverpool could very well run away with the league title this season.
